DESCRIPTION:JAPANESE BOOKS WITH JOELLE WEBBER\n\nNovember 11 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm EST\n\n$40.00   $50.00\n \n\nThis class is part of a 3-week series of book arts classes that will cover various techniques and materials including Decorative Paste Papers\, Japanese Books\, and Long Stitch Books. Each class will focus on a different topic\, while we learn the basics of book binding vocabulary and a bit of book binding history. Students can register for each class separately\, but are also encouraged to come to all three! Additional workshops are November 4 and November 18.\n\nIn the Japanese Books session we will create this Eastern 4-hole stab binding using Western materials\, while discussing original Eastern tools & materials. Learn how to use hammers & awls to create the decorative stitching on this book. If time allows\, we will explore more complex sewing patterns as well.\n\nTools & materials provided.\nAbout the Instructor: Joelle Webber has been making books for 40 years. At Mermaid Bindery on Westport Island she offers original artist books\, binding services for fellow creators\, handmade crafts in her roadside shed\, and workshops for several communities.
