SUMMARY:Letterpress Printmaking: Wives’ Tales & Superstitions
DESCRIPTION:This printmaking workshop with visiting artist Evelyn Davis-Walker\, Wives' Tales and Superstitions\, will give participants a chance to interpret phrases they grew up learning in a fabulous and fun way. During this two-day workshop\, participants will utilize traditional letterpress techniques in order to create unique handmade books. They will explore basic compositional considerations as they practice pairing imagery and type together to create half-letter sized books (8.5" x 5.5"). Students will walk away from the experience with a newfound knowledge of traditional printing techniques\; ability to set type in practical ways\; an understanding of studio and equipment protocols\; and an appreciation for exploring and collaborating with others.\n\n \n\nAbout the instructor: Evelyn Davis-Walker holds a B.A. from Otterbein University and a M.F.A. from Marywood University. Evelyn is a graphic designer\; a maker\; an educator\; and a socially engaged art activist. Evelyn has a strong affinity for all things paper   from mixed media collage\, creating typographical prints on her letterpress machine\, and assembling handmade books. Her art practice is centered around strengthening the need for care and empathy towards others through visual communication. She has received numerous awards and has exhibited in solo\, group and juried exhibitions.
