This play, by Simon Stevens based on a novel by Mark Haddon, and set in modern-day England is a dark, dramatic, engaging, active, demanding, deeply-human neighborhood mystery seen through the eyes of an autistic teen. This is an ensemble piece with many moving parts. The ideal cast is teamwork-driven and has a wide variety of skills to bring to the table. A strong desire to create specifically-choreographed and compelling, complex theatre is required.
The four principal roles have the vast majority of the lines. Christopher and Ed require strong memorization. Other cast members have minimal line memorization requirements, but lots of choreography memorization requirements. All cast members must be able and willing to move their bodies quickly, lift up to 20lbs, and use their voice to create sounds and noises that one might consider animalistic. Humming, buzzing, clicking, and other forms of vocal play will be utilized live on stage.
