The Belfast Poetry Festival hosts an intimate pre-festival outdoor concert with acclaimed singer/songwriter Jonatha Brooke on Saturday, July 18 from 6-8 p.m. at a private home in Northport. Bring your own summertime picnic (tents, tables and chairs will be set up), and enjoy on-site specialty beverages and delicious dessert bites in a sweet garden setting steps from Penobscot Bay in Northport, Maine. Starting in the early '90s as part of the duo The Story and later flourishing as a solo artist, Jonatha Brooke has released an impressive collection of music. Beyond her solo career, offers Master Classes in songwriting and recording both online and in person. In 2014, she wrote, produced, and starred in her own one-woman show, “My Mother Has 4 Noses,” which ran off-Broadway to rave reviews and was Critics’ Pick in all the New York and Theater press, including NY Times and Time Out.
Jonatha was the recipient of a McKnight Artist Fellowship Grant in 2018, won the 2019 International Acoustic Music Award for Best Female Artist for “Put the Gun Down,” and was the competition’s overall grand prize winner. In 2020, she was awarded an Independent Music Award (IMA) for her EP, “Imposter.”
Our “Barefoot Ballroom” Summer Soiree takes its inspiration from Jonatha’s song “The Barefoot Ballroom,” which appeared in Jonatha’s Angel in the House album released in 1995.
