Cathy Morgan Bird Week (named for an avid BBWC birder and late BBWC board member) is full of birdy activities, including a series of bird walks at local preserves with expert birders, a paddle on Marsh River and a lively and entertaining talk by Nick Lund of the Maine Audubon Society. All activities are free. Join us and bring a friend:
Saturday, May 10 - 7:00 am - 9:00 am - Celebrate International Migratory Bird Day! Birds love Sears Island, a national eBird hotspot. Meet Maine Master Naturalist Cloe Chunn and Todd Miller at the Sears Island gate and see the birds that flock to the island. Be ready for warblers in the trees and waders along the shore – and maybe an osprey or two. This walk is ADA-accessible, parking is easy and there are rustic facilities.
Sunday, May 11 - 7:00am - 10:00am - Celebrate Mother’s Day with a Bird Walk
You’re invited to BBWC board member Cloe Chunn and David Thanhauser’s farm, 210 Oak Hill Road in Swanville, to spot birds at their pond, in the woods and fields and along the Wescot Stream.
Monday, May 12 - 7:00 am - 9:00 am - Bird Walk on the Rocky Knolls Trail
Maine Master Naturalist Erik Klausmayer will lead the bird walk at the Rocky Knolls Trail. Meet at the Rocky Knolls Tract of Meadow Brook Preserve of the Coastal Mountains Land Trust, 397 Oak Hill Road, Swanville.
Tuesday, May 13
7:00 am - 9:00 am - Bird Walk on Sears Island
Come to Sears Island and join Erik Klausmayer at Sears Island gate. People come from all over the country to watch birds on this island and it’s well worth the trip. This walk is ADA-accessible.
6:30-8:00pm: Welcoming our Returning Migrant Birds: Who They Are, Where They’re From
Spend an informative evening with Nick Lund of Maine Audubon in the Abbott Room at the Belfast Free Library and on Zoom. Thursday, May 15 - 7:00 am - 9:00 am - Bird Walk at the Ducktrap River Preserve
Meet Kristin Lindquist and Gary Gulezian at the Coastal Mountains Land Trust’s Ducktrap River Preserve on Route 52 in Lincolnville for a beautiful walk through the springtime woods.
Friday, May 16 - 7:00 am - 9:00 am - Bird Walk on the Belfast Rail Trail
Meet Cloe Chunn at the Center Parking Lot (a.k.a. Upper Bridge).This walk is ADA accessible.
Saturday, May 17 - 12:00pm - 4:00pm - Paddle and bird the South Branch of the Marsh River
Meet Cloe Chunn at noon at the Frankfort Boat Launch on Rt. 1A. Bring your boat, paddle, PFD, water, lunch, protection from sun, wind, rain. This is a four hour trip.
