$135.00 – $175.00 (8-week course)
The fundamentals of drawing are challenging, but can be made clear with regular practice. During this eight week course, we will divide our time equally between structure and value. We will discuss the use of perspective and various types of line to understand how to make your drawings more volumetric and convincing. We will then use this understanding of structural form to introduce the effects of light and shadow. This class is designed for beginner-level as well as more advanced artists that want to revisit and codify drawing fundamentals in their artwork. Class dates: March 16, 23, 30, April 6, 13, 20, 27, May 11 (skips May 4)

About the instructor: Tim Conte is a recent addition to the faculty at the University of Maine, though he has taught drawing and painting for over 16 years at universities in Philadelphia and Arizona. As an artist, he aims to be an attentive eye. Watching the day’s changing light, and all the activity it reveals, is how he spends most of the time in the studio. “I have come to believe that the most beautiful things in the world are the most atmospheric. Ultimately, I find satisfaction in the pursuit and am pleased to be a part of it all.”
