Students will create glass cane with a colored center encased in crystal. Cane can be used to create stripes, spirals, herringbone, and other patterns on vessels, as well as to create bundled murrini (patterned glass tiles) and fused plates. Students will learn to pick up color bar that has been preheated in the annealer, heat it, shape it, and gather over it. Once it is the appropriate size, shape, and temperature, students will work in teams to pull the mass into a long, even strand of filigrana cane.
This workshop is for students who have completed Introduction to Glassblowing at WFA, or an equivalent 16-hr introductory course at another studio. More advanced students are also welcome. This is an excellent opportunity for students to start or replenish their cane supply for use in future work.
