St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, 95 Court St., Belfast, will observe the start of the Christian season of Lent with a traditional Ash Wednesday service at noon March 5. The solemn service of confession and repentance will be conducted by the Rev. Barbara Briggs and include Holy Eucharist, imposition of Ashes, and invitation to the observance of a holy Lent.
During Lent from March 11 through April 15 St. Margaret's will offer a sung compline service in the church every Tuesday evening at 8 p.m.
On Palm Sunday, April 13, worshippers are invited to gather first in the St. Margaret's parish hall at 95 Court At. at 9:45 a.m. for the start of the liturgy and to receive palm fronds. They will then process for a short distance outdoors and enter the church for the remainder of the service.
On Maundy Thursday, April 17, there will be a simple Mediterranean pot luck dinner at 6 p.m. in the parish hall, with Holy Eucharist and foot-washing. This will be followed by a formal stripping of the altar in the church.
The Good Friday Liturgy with adoration of the cross and distribution of communion from the reserved sacrament will be offered at St. Margaret's at 6 p.m. on Good Friday, April 18.
Easter Sunday will be celebrated with Holy Eucharist at two services, 8 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. Two Sunday morning services will continue at St. Margaret's until the start of Advent in late November.
