The gardens at Belfast CoHousing and EcoVillage, located at 25 Village Road, Belfast, will be open to view on Saturday, August 15 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m, the next-to-last Open Garden Days event of 2026 sponsored by the Belfast Garden Club.
For more than a decade, this community of people who share communal ethics and spirit has lived and gardened in Belfast. The plantings added to the 41+ acre property have matured into a beautiful landscape. Vegetable and herb gardens sit alongside perennial beds, fruit trees, and a wide-open landscape.
In the 36-unit property, many gardeners have planted their own spaces as well as utilizing the community gardens and greenhouse. Conservation practices, recycling, composting, and green lifestyle choices are a part of the landscape—not surprising in a community where the houses are built so efficiently that they “can be heated with a hairdryer,” according to the standard of the German Passiv Haus.
Walking the public pathways, the visitor learns of the many ways to garden, as well as how well the plants create the environment. Some of the private gardens will be open for viewing and the history of the land will be available for the asking.
The $5.00 donation for admission to the gardens goes to support the Belfast Garden Club’s many civic and educational programs locally, including maintenance of thirteen public gardens within the city limits.
