The Belfast Garden Club has promoted the creation and care of public gardens and presented speakers to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening since 1929. The Belfast Garden Club awards at least one scholarship each year to a Waldo County high school graduate who is planning to pursue an associate's or bachelor's degree in conservation, ecology, horticulture, natural resources, sustainable agriculture or a related field. The funds for the scholarship are raised at the Club’s annual Green Thumb Sale in May.

The Belfast Garden Club is responsible for maintaining 13 public gardens in the City. The Garden Club also hosts the Open Garden Days all summer, donates $500 to the Troy Howard Middle School for their garden, and donates $250 for gardening and related books to the Belfast Free Library, also funding evening speakers at the library each year. In addition, BGC decorates the Belfast Free Library for the holidays. The Club hosts monthly environmental and conservation talks as well as monthly speakers on garden-related topics at our meetings. All Club meetings and talks are open to the public. The Club welcomes new members year round, come and join us.
