United Midcoast Charities’ annual “Day of Giving” is back! On December 18, you can once again finish your last-minute holiday shopping and pay it forward at the same time. Dozens of local retailers will be donating part of the day’s proceeds to UMC, which provides much-needed funding to more than 50 agencies in Knox and Waldo counties. “We’re delighted to bring back this wonderful holiday tradition,” said UMC Executive Director John Viehman in announcing this news. “Although the Midcoast has returned to some semblance of normalcy in recent months, many of our friends and neighbors still face enormous challenges. The ’Day of Giving’ is a terrific way for all of us to support area businesses and help address our neighbors’ most basic needs of food, housing, health and safety, and economic security. Sierra Dietz of The Grasshoppers Shops in Rockland and Belfast added, “Since 1975, our family business has taken pride in supporting the local community. UMC is a valuable resource for nonprofits in Midcoast Maine, assisting the most vulnerable and contributing to a healthy society. The Grasshopper Shop is delighted to do our part to support UMC during these challenging times.” This year’s Day Of Giving is sponsored by Allen Insurance & Financial, Bangor Savings Bank, and Courier Newspapers/VillageSoup.
