This 8-week class is for students with a firm grasp of pinch, coil and slab building techniques. We will explore some of the many variations on hollowed and closed forms, various techniques for making vessels with fitted lids such as jars, boxes or bottles, and working with the clay at different stages of dryness. Experienced handbuilding students only.
For students interested in learning about handbuilding, please see our Beginning Handbuilding course.
About the instructor: Chandra Elmendorf has a degree in fine art and has had adventures in many art mediums. She says, “One of my deepest and oldest loves is clay. I was introduced to hand building and wheel throwing at the age of 7, then moved away from it at age 11. I’ve been finding my way back to it ever since. I worked in sculpture briefly during my college years, finally making my way back home to clay work for good in 2015. I don’t see any end to exploring the many possibilities of this special mud, and can’t wait to see where it takes me next.”
