The teapot is central to cultures as geographically diverse as Britain, Japan, China and the Middle East. In Cannes, France, North African men socialize over tea; in Japan, the teahouse is a place of formal ceremony; in England they have high tea, but the teapot is often the most challenging project for a potter. It combines the skills of making a cylinder (body), a plate (lid), a cylinder (spout), and, most daunting, a handle. In this four-week class, students will learn how to put all of those skills into one vessel that pours comfortably and suggests ease.
