Underground Lounge - Willy Kelly & Cafe Daze
Veteran local performer Willy Kelly and his band Cafe Daze bring their mix of folk and blues with three-part vocal harmonies to the Underground Lounge on January 5th. Guitarist/songwriter Kelly is widely known in the mid-coast region, and it’s no wonder—he’s opened for top talent like Taj Mahal, Leo Kottke, Bill Monroe, and Shemekia Copeland and fronted at least three ongoing bands, many of which have at one time or another featured some of the state’s best musicians. “That’s one of the things to love about Maine,” says Kelly, “we all kind of know and work together.” That is certainly true of Cafe Daze, whose members have been playing together in one way or another for forty years: Kelly on slide and acoustic guitars, Joe Allard on bass and guitar, and Jeff Densmore on hand drums. They’ll be performing Kelly’s originals, a rootsy mix of folk, blues, and rock, capped with the group’s trademark harmonies. It all happens on Thursday, January 5th. Doors open at 6:30, show starts at 7PM. Tickets are $10, cash only at the door.
The Underground Lounge is located in the basement of the Belfast Maskers Theatre at 17 Court Street, offering a homey coffeehouse vibe with a combination of row and cabaret seating (plus some couches) and a kitchen serving drinks and homemade treats. Cozy up with a hot beverage on select Thursday evenings and enjoy indie, folk, and pop performers from around the area.
