POSITION SUMMARY:
The OHTM Development Director is responsible for cultivating and nurturing donor relationships with the entire range of donors who support OHTM’s mission to collect, preserve, exhibit, and operate pre-1940s transportation.  This includes undergirding the growth of the STEM Education Program, which aims from the earliest ages to educate, guide, and inspire young people in the technological innovation required for a developing workforce.
 
Under the direction of the Executive Director, this position also requires a high degree of independence and the ability to perform on a superior level with a minimum of adjunct support.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Envisioning, implementing, and monitoring a comprehensive and creative donor-engagement at the state and national levels to support all activities, programs, and long-range goals of the Museum
  • Coordinating all development activities of the Museum to develop a culture of giving in regular and sustainable gifts, to include:
    • fundraising
    • philanthropic activities
    • industry support
    • cultivating legacy giving programs
    • overseeing appeals: sweepstakes, sponsorships, writing grants
  • Growing the Museum’s membership and membership engagement
  • Working closely with other Directors to develop unique funding schemes to support special programs, including assisting with planning and implementing special events
  • Providing prospect research and reporting to support the Capital Campaign Team
  • Processing comprehensive statistical analyses to evaluate and adjust department activities and strategies, as well as developing and maintaining a budget
  • Assisting in growing a Museum-wide financial strategy
  • Representing the Museum with area Chambers of Commerce and the Maine Department of Tourism
  • Supporting the Communications Department with strategic messaging
  • Ability to collaborate with and coach others 
 
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED FOR POSITION:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, or Financial Management, or the equivalent in closely-related education and work experience
  • At least five years of related experience working with marketing, development, or donor-relationship management
  • A creative and visionary planning mindset that can comprehensively coordinate financial support on both short and long-term horizons for the Museum’s entire range of activities and initiatives
  • Project and process management abilities to develop and maintain efficient and effective systems to meet Development objectives; the ability to incorporate all areas of the Museum while understanding the unique individuality of each area
  • Understands and can manipulate statistical models to evaluate and achieve Museum goals
  • Understands event planning complexities and timelines
  • Excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal relationship skills
  • Exceptional time management and organizational/prioritization skills to maximize productivity while meeting deadlines
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Collaborates well with others inside and outside of the organization; works effectively independently, and also as a team, whether as a leader or a follower
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, Raiser's Edge database or other development databases, and other software as appropriate to the position
  • Possesses a valid driver's license
