Join us Saturday, February 15 at Bagaduce Music Performance Hall for a musician's workshop and Concert from The Tin Pan Alley Trio. At 1pm musicians, history and music buffs (or all of the above!) are welcome to come to Bagaduce Music for a workshop about this Tin Pan Alley repertoire. From information about vocal singing styles of the era, how Louis Armstrong originated many elements of jazz singing, in contrast and comparison to singers of the era such as Bessie Smith and Sophie Tucker to more technical information such as “stride piano variations" and possibly "chord voicing” for Jazz- this workshop will be informative and fun! At 3pm enjoy Time Travel to Tin Pan Alley, a unique docu-concert from The Time Travel Trio who deliver a new take on celebrated standards from the golden Jazz Age of the 1920s written by Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, and the Gershwins. The Trio features pianist and UMaine Jazz Studies Program professor Scott Cleveland, UMaine Jazz Studies program director Dan Barrett on trombone, and Ann Delaney, professional vocalist and amateur musicologist. The Time Travel Trio shares the music of the era and the stories behind the composers and the performers including Al Jolson, Fanny Brice, and Billy Rose. The inspiration behind forming the Time Travel Trio was the recent availability of popular songs from the 1920s into the public domain, and the opportunity it presented to perform and share the history of the songs that formed the basis of what is informally known as The Great American Songbook. The sheet music used to prepare these concerts was borrowed from the Bagaduce Music library! Bagaduce Music is located at 49 South St, Blue Hill, ME 04614.
